On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, more than 300 participants were involved in the Provo +50 Summit.
The Provo +50 Summit was designed to engage community stakeholders in Provo in discussing the important trends that will impact Provo and Utah Valley over the next 50 years and to begin to take steps now to create a legacy that capitalizes on our community’s strengths and these trends. The summit was held at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Downtown Provo .
The format included a series of seven nine-minute presentations (think TED) on topics including education, demographic trends, health care, transportation, the economy, technology and natural resources from regionally recognized experts, followed by about 90 minutes of roundtable discussions thereafter on these and similar topics. Following these breakouts, the Summit included a luncheon involving some instant polling on some of the issues discussed in the breakout sessions. The concluding keynote was delivered by Bishop H. David Burton, Emeritus Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints speaking on the future of Utah, Utah Valley and Provo and what community leaders can do today to prepare for that future.
