Summary of Amy Holloway's Presentation

  • Lately, Provo has been appearing in a lot of rankings. These rankings may not be "scientific" but they do create awareness with businesses and site selectors and they become a self-fulfilling prophecy on what areas are best for expansion.
  • This expansion leads to more growth. What will you do with this new growth?
  • The Wasatch Front Mega Region from Provo to Ogden is primed for growth over the next 50 years.
  • There is an urgency to respond to growth now because by 2050 you will have another Utah County within Utah County and another Provo within Provo. This is a lot of people in a rather confined geography between mountains and lakes.
  • New growth becomes Dense and Vertical, High Tech and High Capital Investment, Regionally Collaborative, Targeted in approach to business attraction, and more dynamic in workforce training and ability.
  • The recently completed Provo Economic Development Strategic Plan helps build a base for the next 50 years of growth and identifies ways to respond to various economic trends.
  • Avalanche Consulting conducted extensive research that shows what people in Provo most desire in the local economy and what types of jobs/industries they feel are the best fit for the future.
  • Additional research identifies where Provo is most poised to compete in the national economy. This research can be found at provostrategy.org
  • Don't worry about what happened yesterday and look forward.
